There’s no question that Celine’s creative director Phoebe Philo is a bona fide fashion star. The Central Saint Martins’ alumna joined the French fashion house in 2008, after a three-year break, and has since consistently delivered one covetable bag after another. That’s in addition to the very minimal, practical and sophisticated ready-to-wear line. Now that the brand is firmly anchored at Le Mill, we decided to take a quick look at their most-talked about fashion moments.

 

 

The Upgraded Laundry Bag

Before Balenciaga decided to turn its attention to the market bag, creative director Phoebe Philo reimagined the everyday laundry bag for Fall/Winter ’13. The criss-cross weaves took over everything from funnel necks to clutches.

 

 

The ‘It’ Bags

In 2010, the fashion house gave us the universal favourite: the Trapeze bag. The wide wings were such a hit, that they were immediately imitated by many. The clips, zips, studs…it really floors you with the attention to detail. Céline is also responsible for other winners like the Trotteur (a take on the classic ’70s saddle bag), the classic Box bag and even the Tie Knot bag.

 

 

The Winning Collaboration

Photographer Juergen Teller and model Daria Werbowy have been frequent collaborators on Céline campaigns since 2011, and it’s plain to see why. Together they create magic. The refreshing campaigns are rooted in relatable settings, and true to Philo’s vision of the Céline woman.

 

 

The Real Campaign

Phoebe Philo’s women are doers. Real, sophisticated and seeking elegance in everyday living. So when Céline brought together Joan Didion and Juergen Teller for its Spring/Summer ’15 campaign it caused ripples in the fashion sphere. Because here was a campaign that celebrated age and wisdom in an industry obsessed with youth.
