At the age of 8, he wrote a letter to the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier, asking to be his stylist. He even defended his idea by saying it would make for good publicity.
Having lived his charming country childhood, Jacquemus moved to Paris at the age of 18. After his mother’s untimely death, he dropped out of ESMOD to pursue his dreams. Jacquemus looked up to Rei Kawakubo and learnt the workings of the industry at the Japanese designer’s atelier. He had brief stints at Citizen K and Comme des Garçons before he helmed his own eponymous label. He worked after hours and by the time he was 19, Jacquemus was paved as an homage to his mother, after her maiden name.
