Whimsy always surrounded Rebecca as she grew up spending her summers at her family home in Watermill, New York. Amidst an orchard and rolling country gardens, Rebecca’s home was a 19th century farmhouse with accents drawing inspiration from rustic, French aesthetics. Victorian and Edwardian inspired clothing comprised of Rebecca’s childhood wardrobe. She went on to study English Literature in college, which is also where she fell in love with Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. She later went to become an editor at Cosmopolitan magazine where she curated dreamy, romantic stories before launching Love Shack Fancy in 2013.

When Rebecca Hessel Cohen could not find the perfect dresses for her bridesmaids even after having scoured through the stores of New York, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She found a seamstress in the Garment District who helped Rebecca whip up a breezy dress. The result was a chiffon halter dress that was feminine and easy to move in. This proverbial dress was the kickstart Rebecca needed to take a plunge into designing. She went on to craft Love Shack Fancy collections with inspiration derived from a childhood that was filled with elements from the Victorian and Edwardian era.
