Shop Phantom Hands at Le Mill, the modern furniture brand rooted in Indian craftsmanship. Spruce up your home with the Phantom Hands furniture collection.

Phantom Hands makes handcrafted, design-driven contemporary furniture. Their workshop in Bangalore, India is an ecosystem of skilled carpenters, wood polishers, cane weavers, upholsterers, and tailors from craft communities across the country.

Phantom Hands works with wood, fabrics, cane, metal, etc. and collaborate with furniture and textile designers to create collections that build on the heritage of Indian craftsmanship and design.

Phantom Hands furniture is a culmination of centuries of craft knowledge and skills, passed on from generation to generation. The name 'Phantom Hands ' is an homage to the legacy of these past artisans whose contributions manifest in each piece they make. Phantom Hands was started in 2013 as a monthly catalog of curated vintage objects, a hobby project of their founders- Deepak Srinath and Aparna Rao.

Phantom Hands’ first collection of furniture, Project Chandigarh, was launched in May 2015. Having started with three chair models, the collection has expanded to re-editions of several pieces of furniture designed for the city of Chandigarh under the guidance of Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret. Since 2017, Phantom Hands furniture has collaborated with designers such as Milan-based INODA+SVEJE, Amsterdam-based x + l and Glasgow-based Derek Welsh to create collections of original design. These draw inspiration from the form and philosophy of Indian Modernism that originated in Chandigarh, and an exploration of the possibilities that traditional Indian craft offers.

Le Mill’s curation of home products includes Phantom Hands furniture rooted in traditional crafts and new era design for your living room, bedroom or any other spaces.

The Coffee Table by Phantom Hands is a contemporary re-edition based on similar designs created for Chandigarh. The upper ‘U’ portion of the table is made entirely from teak veneer on plywood. The horizontal and vertical pieces of veneer that make up the upper portion have a visible 45 degree joint between them. The 8mm glass table top is supported by a wooden stiffener that runs along the length of the table, just below the glass. There are two other solid teak braces that run along the length of the table and on which the top U base rests. The V legs of this Phantom Hands table are made of solid teak and are rounded along the edge.

The Room Divider/Folding Screen evolved out of Phantom Hands ’ collaboration with Amsterdam-based designers X+L (Xander Vervoort + Leon van Boxtel). Phantom Hands furniture production process leaves them with a number of smaller pieces of teak wood that cannot be used for regular furniture. Instead of wasting this precious teak, they decided to create products that are designed to utilize these pieces. X+L loved the concept of using recycled teak and the Room Divider was the first product they designed for this collection. Each screen is unique and has slightly different blocks. Each piece of this Phantom Hands folding screen is shaped and polished by hand prior to assembly, making it a labor and skill intensive process.

Le Mill houses an array of exceptional Phantom Hands furniture that are handpicked to fit right into the fashion-forward spaces of the contemporary Indian woman. We strive to give you pieces whose value extends far beyond just aesthetics. Phantom Hands Chairs: Crafted for Modern Day Homes with Traditional Crafts

The Upholstered Arm-less Chair is a Phantom Hands chair that is a re-edition of the model created for building lobbies in Chandigarh in the 1950s. This Phantom Hands chair version is made with high quality fabric and we offer a choice of fabric materials and colors. We use velvet and wool blends which are all contract quality with rub counts close to 100,000. Please write to us for more information on fabric options.

The Muṅgāru Dining Chair is part of the 'contemporary modern' Muṅgāru Collection designed by Milan-based furniture designers INODA+SVEJE exclusively for Phantom Hands. This Dining Chair from Phantom Hands chair collection is similar in form to the Lounge Chair from the same collection, but is designed to make it compatible for use at a dining table or desk. The design draws inspiration in equal parts from the modernist legacy of Chandigarh’s mid-century furniture, and the level of skill that traditional Indian craft-based production offers.
