Eká - A ready-to-wear Indian label focused on creating pieces that are fluid in shape and essential to timeless wardrobes. All their pieces are all woven in India, favouring the raw beauty of natural fibers.

Rina Singh’s Eká takes you through a stroll down the indigenous sustainability path. With timeless functionality embedded in the very DNA of the brand, Eká's aesthetic draws charm from Indian craftsmanship and artistry. This globally renowned label is responsible for soulful clothing that is deeply invested in individual expression.

Eká was founded in 2011 by craft enthusiast Rina Singh who hails from the heartland.

Born in Uttar Pradesh, India, Rina Singh’s earliest childhood memories can be traced back to summer afternoons spent at her maternal home in a small village named Pansar. This was a culture rich region where Rina Singh found herself constantly surrounded by a diverse list of crafts. She was appointed the in-house fashion designer for her family owing to her knack for stitching and embroidery from a very young age. Having married into a royal family of Rajasthan, Rina Singh experienced Indian culture and artistry at its most opulent form.

In 1997, she parted ways from her life as a royal to join the Wigan & Leigh College (WLC) in New Delhi on a scholarship. Soon she found a mentor in Archana Shah, the designer responsible for initiating the crafts movement by weaving India’s heritage artistry with contemporary Ready to Wear fashion. Rina Singh's internship with an Indian craft label and travels through rural Western India with friend and now husband Sandeep helped her learn the business model that runs parallel to our indigenous crafts.

Over the course of the next decade, she had multiple stints in the traditional handcraft and contemporary Ready to Wear sectors that had her travelling around the world. Rina Singh took a sabbatical in 2010 to re-evaluate her path and found everything that she needed to incept her own label very close to home. She employed her husband’s team of weavers, craftsmen, block makers and dyers and launched Eká in 2011. She established a label that was a reflection of her own simple and humble childhood. Eká’s vision has evolved over time as a holistically sustainable brand that is deeply rooted in crafts and designs seasonless, timeless luxury.

Eká was first retailed at a quaint concept store in London that was revered to house some of the most noteworthy names in Avant-Garde fashion. Since then, the label has been presenting their line at four international shows twice a year including New York and Paris each year. In 2014, Eká began to showcase their holistic, sustainable collections in India. In this trousseau driven country Eká slowly but steadily found it's footing and has now successfully made it's space in every fashion forward wardrobe.

Rina Singh was chosen for the Chairman’s Scholarship from Wigan & Leigh College to study fashion in the UK in 1998. She also bagged Elle India Graduates Award in 2015 and was a Runner up at the Vogue India Fashion Fund 2016. Rina Singh also counts being chosen as the finalist from India for the prestigious Woolmark International Award in 2016 among her many accolades.

Fabrics That Connect India

Eká's timeless collections are made in India, utilizing Indian indigenous crafts and skills that employ natural resources to develop fabrications that are concocted using skills from various regional craft belts. The outcome of this a marriage of various cultures and an ethical monetization of handcrafts that has paved a reliable supply chain system that maps various parts of India.

Jamdani and Tangail are sourced from West Bengal in the east, while on the other end, Gujarat offers skilled artistry in block making, printing and indigo dyeing. From up north in Amritsar, Punjab, specialized jacquard looms are sourced while it’s neighboring state Himachal Pradesh is where Eká gets their handwoven wool. Andhra Pradesh in the south is where woven regional cotton fabrications can be found. The silhouettes are kept fluid and simple to strike the right balance between the creativity of Indian crafts and utilitarian design that allows the wearer to move freely. Eká's collections are handcrafted to be layered or worn as separates.
