Jacquemus - Instagram's favourite French designer collections are rooted in fine tailoring. Shop Jacquemus's dresses, belts, jackets, bags and more only at Le Mill.

Simone Porte Jacquemus launched his eponymous label in 2009. Ever since, the label has amassed a cult following that comprises high fashion enthusiasts from all corners of the globe. Conversation starting clothing and conceptual accessories that break the internet combine together to form Jacquemus’s contemporary edits.

With every passing collection, Jacquemus channels a signature nonchalance that is quintessential to the South of France. This inspiration dates back to the childhood of their Creative Director Simone Porte Jacquemus. Growing up in Mallemort, a small town in the South of France, Jacquemus spent his days running around in the apple fields that were farmed by his family. His farmer father was also a singer in a local rock band who dressed up in the evenings for performances. Jacquemus considered his mother to be his role model and would often cut dresses out of linen for her. Rather than dreaming up a simple life at the farm, Jacquemus dreamt of living amidst a whirlwind of beauty and design. At the age of 8, he wrote a letter to the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier, asking to be his stylist. He even defended his idea by saying it would make for good publicity.

Having lived his charming country childhood, Jacquemus moved to Paris at the age of 18. After his mother’s untimely death, he dropped out of ESMOD to pursue his dreams. Jacquemus looked up to Rei Kawakubo and learnt the workings of the industry at the Japanese designer’s atelier. He had brief stints at Citizen K and Comme des Garçons before he helmed his own eponymous label. He worked after hours and by the time he was 19, Jacquemus was paved as an homage to his mother, after her maiden name.

Jacquemus is exclusively available in India at Le Mill’s brick-and-mortar store or at lemillindia.com.

The collections of Jacquemus make an understated splash with every new drop. Intelligently crafted and tailored to perfection, these collections include ready-to-wear clothing, bags, shoes, accessories and millinery. Oscillating between the conceptual and the commercial, this label’s designs are rooted in minimalist luxury. Jacquemus’s high visual impact without any obvious symbolism is what makes this label popular among contemporary luxury seekers.

Towards the beginning, Jacquemus’s minimalist approach was a conscious decision made more out of necessity than strategy. For a lack of resources, the label only created styles from no-frills textiles like cotton, viscose and linen. Details like buttons and pockets felt excessive. With no resources for embellishments, Jacquemus had to create and impress with pure innovation. It was in these earlier years that exaggerated tailoring and strategic details molded to the female form got embedded in the very DNA of Jacquemus.

His core aesthetic has always aimed to be artfully erotic. Effortlessly sensual, Jacquemus’s dresses bring summer to any season with their breezy silhouettes, plunging necklines and short hems. Separates from Jacquemus are crafted with a playful take on fine tailoring. Their color palettes are dominated by surreal pastels and natural tones that are nostalgic of the designer’s native South of France. Jacquemus’s sensibilities stem from the designer’s love for storytelling and this is reminiscent in not only their collections but also social media.

Shoes and Bags Collections from Jacquemus: Instagram’s favorite accessories available in India at Le Mill

Jacquemus’s accessories are Insta famous. A guard of playful bags, shoes and hats was launched in 2017, after the brand became a go-to for fashion’s crème de la crème. Jacquemus’s bags were instantly established as the ‘It’ bags, and have continued reigning with new iterations. Casual and playful are the two general themes that run consistent within their line of accessories, just like their ready to wear edits.

The mini bag is a trend of the decade that has been made popular by Jacquemus bags. Playing with proportions and designing in exaggeration has always been a feat that the label experiments with. The Le Chiquito, which literally translates to ‘the little one’, has become the most iconic style that is quintessential to Jacquemus bags. A top handle bag with a detachable strap and single compartment, the Le Chiquito is available in various iterations of size, color and fabrics. In the list of must-have Jacquemus bags, the Le Riviera comes to a very close second. It is a versatile shoulder bag that is made iconic by the wooden ring chain link on the strap. The Le Panier Soleil is a straw bag that was made for the beach bums of the fashion world. A casual tote, this Jacquemus bag is a wardrobe staple that is available in an array of sizes and colors.

Shoes at Jacquemus take the refined, French chic route. Youthfully confident, Jacquemus’s shoes are crafted with a sense of understatement while also upholding the drama.
