Brand Watch: Agolde for Sustainable, California Cool Girl Denim
Featured in Forbes, the LA based brand claims to have cracked the sustainability code when it comes to denim. The average jean takes over 1,800 gallons of water to produce because jeans are washed repeatedly to get that perfect vintage look. For perspective, the average person consumes 0.5 gallons of water in a day, less in rural India. But Agolde proves that fashion and sustainability can in fact go hand in hand and we don’t need to dress in shapeless garbage bags to consume consciously.
Agolde uses ozone wash technology which reportedly uses less than one tenth the amount of water used in traditional jean production to get the same vintage wash and feel. Laser cutting technology is used to create distressed lines for an efficient, eco-friendly alternative to old school methods. Each pair is handcrafted, with ethically sourced organic cotton and designed with that modern cool girl 90s look.
Agolde was originally founded in 1993 and still preserves that retro aesthetic. Re-established by “the father of modern denim”, Jerome Dahan, co-founder of the popular ethical brand Citizens of Humanity, it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two about what women want.
If you’re a fan of rap, you’ll be happy to know Agolde has collaborated with A$AP Ferg twice, coming up with a fast-selling range of unisex jeans, military pants and denim jackets.
With a fast following from celebrities like Mindy Kaling, Charlize Theron, Kylie Jenner, Hilary Duff and Miley Cyrus, it’s easy to tell that Agolde has a little something for everyone. The Celebrity list is as endless as the range of washes Agolde produces. Everything from faded grey to charcoal black. This summer invest in some denim you’ll never want to get out of. Shop conscious, stay cool.
