Neon Will Get You Noticed
You know that certain 18-year old who’s been topping the charts, taking home 4 Grammys, and turning up on the red-carpet with her slime green hair intact? Yeah, we’re blaming Billie Eilish on the resurgence of neon green.
2018 may have been the year of 50 shades of beige, but 2020 so far, is making a case for all things bright. From Valentino’s maxi dress to Versace’s structured midi in zingy green, a resolution to go green has never been easier. Even fashion’s current darling, Stella Mccartney’s Spring/Summer 2020 show saw a burst of turquoise on the runway; be it slouchy silhouettes or structured jumpsuits. Everyone who was eagerly waiting for the Giambattista Valli x H&M drop, got a teaser when Kendall Jenner turned up in a highlighter pink frothy tulle dress. Meanwhile, at Rosetta Getty, the palette may have been pastel, but the look to get the green-light was a slow-burn orange slip dress, proving yet again, that the ’90s did it best.
Fluorescent brights have found favour in celebrities, too. Chrissy Teigan chose a voluminous Yanina Couture gown in fizzy orange while closer to home, Ananya Panday has been seen sporting neon on multiple occasions. The latest? A popping pink latex dress. It sure isn’t easy going neon. But if worn right, and in microdoses, it can make for a compelling look. Start by infusing it into an all-beige outfit, add a bright bag or a pair of neon shoes (we’re looking at you YSL) to a black dress, or work it into your workwear wardrobe with a Maison Rabih Kayrouz neon blouse tucked away under an all black pantsuit.
