‘Fashion as a Muse’ : In Conversation with 7 Creatives

We sat with seven stylish creatives to talk fashion, muses and candy in light of our Delhi store opening. All entrepreneurial in their own right, they embody fashion as an art form, true to the Le Mill spirit.

Rasna Bhasin is digital content creator. Based out of Delhi, she’s a fashionista with a loyal following of over 70,000 humans on Instagram.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion to me is science and fantasy!

Who is your go to designer?

For Western wear: Dhruv Kapoor.

For Indian wear: Tarun Tahiliani.

What’s your go-to look?

A black jumpsuit or blue flared jeans with a crisp white shirt. It never fails – you can dress it up or down!

Gummy bears or chocolate?

Chocolate Covered Gummy Bears.

All black or All white?

Black and white.

Tarini Manchanda is the founder of Initial Studio. The design studio specializes in personalized products, think anything from mugs and jewellery to leather bound stationary.

How do you approach fashion?

For me it’s being able to experiment with the way I look without taking myself too seriously.

A designer you keep going back to?

I love Celine because they haven’t been bitten by the logo-mania bug!

What’s a consistent style we can find in your wardrobe?

I love a good co-ord set, they’re versatile. I also like breezy clothes that allow movement.

What direction do you think fashion needs to take moving forward?

The future of fashion is a less is more approach. I think it needs to be focused more on buying less, but buying quality, with a definite move towards sustainability.

Sharnamli Mehra Adhar is an entrepreneur, and co-founded the Pink post Inc, a lifestyle blog with an emphasis on fashion.

Why is fashion important to you?

Fashion is personal, it’s played a big part in shaping who I am and constantly inspires me in all aspects of my life.

Who is your favorite designer?

Zimmerman. Love the romantic silhouettes that are playful yet feminine.

What’s a look you turn to when you want to impress?

Anything Halpern! I’m a huge fan of sparkle and sequins and no one does it better than him!

How do you want people to approach fashion as time goes by?

Exciting. I envision a world where people take more risks with their fashion choices. I also think we need to move into a sustainable direction, collectively as an industry.

All white over all black any day.

Mitali Wadhwa is a fashion designer and has recently launched her own clothing brand.  Think co-ords and bombers: easy casual. She also co-founded Pink Post Inc.

How do you approach fashion in your every day?

Fashion is an extension of my mood. My outfit depends entirely on what my vibe is on a particular day.

Any go to designers?

My go to designer is me! I love to experiment with both co-ordination and contrast. I love that my label can support my mood.

An outfit or piece of clothing that never fails you?

A dress. There’s a dress for every occasion and mood!

What is the future of fashion?

The future of fashion is here! Thanks to social media, ecommerce websites and fast fashion, brands are accessible to more people at affordable prices. People tend to better dressed and more conscious of how they look, given the constant presence of fashion icons and trends to aspire to.

Chocolate or Gummy bears?

Dark chocolate hands down!

All white or all black?

All white definitely, challenges the imagination.

Sasha Grewal has an eye for craftsmanship and is the Co-Founder of Outhouse Jewellery. She was featured on the 30 under 30 list for the breakthrough success of her costume jewellery.

What is fashion to you?

To me fashion is confidence. I believe in taking pride in who you are and being able to reflect that in your clothes.

Designers you love?

I don’t have any go to designers. I love things with great craftsmanship and character.

What elevates a look when you want to impress?

A slick hairdo and an amazing piece of jewellery.

Always Dark chocolate.

All white or all black?

Both, they are such strong colours and powerful in their own ways.

 Bahaar Dhawan Rohatgi is an artist, entrepreneur, lawyer and activist based in Delhi. She seamlessly integrates her many identities into a singular expression through fashion.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion for me is a snapshot of who you are, where you come from and what you believe in. I am very spontaneous and that reflects in the way I dress.

What do you think the fashion world needs?

The garments will be more wearable rather than catering to passing trends alone. Technology and innovation in fashion is bound to be utilized for creating more useful and functional garments. Sustainability and social responsibility are becoming a “must” for fashion brands and the processes need to be focused on sustainable conscious practices minimizing wastage and restoring ecological balances. Like everything else the success of e-commerce platforms for sales cannot be ignored.

How would you describe your personal style?

True to being an artist, I love to experiment. Eclectic yet comfortable, my style is a mix of oversized and sexy.

What role does fashion play in your life?

Fashion is the easiest way for me to express myself.

Celine, Chloe, Anamika Khanna and Karan Torani.

A look you throw together when you’re in a rush?

Wide leg pants paired with a nice crop top and a jacket and don’t forget the red lips.

What do you think we need to change about how we approach fashion?

I hope the future of fashion is sustainable, but fast fashion has strongly gripped our lives and will be a tough habit to kick.
