Instagram-Favourite Bag Label Wandler Is Now in India!
There’s a good chance you’ve seen Wandler do the rounds. This buzzy brand of minimalist bags is less than a year old, but it’s everywhere on fashion feeds. It’s had many strong takers such as its early champion, stylist Georgia Tal, to recent convert, Instagram’s own Eva Chen and lately even Lady Gaga. In this brief span, it’s found its way to 15 of the most influential stockists around the world – and we’re thrilled to report that the Pre-Fall ’18 collection has just landed at Le Mill! Here’s a quick low down:
Who is it by?
Wandler is the brainchild of Elza Wandler. The Dutch designer, earned her fashion smarts at Amsterdam Fashion Institute (2009), before working for a major denim label. It’s where she learned the workings of a brand, everything from design to brand management. It’s where she realised it’s not enough to simply make a beautiful product, but it’s equally important to tell its story.
Where is it from?
While the designs are made at Wandler & co’s HQ in Amsterdam, the designs are brought to life in Italy, with buttery-soft Italian leather of course.
What’s their aesthetic?
“Directional shapes and a dynamic use of colours lead through my collections,” Wandler told Harper’s Bazaar. It really boils down to simply constructed, geometric shapes. Fact: In her debut collection Wandler actively left out a basic black bag – a bold choice for a young designer.
What are their design hits?
The trapeze shaped ‘Hortensia’ is unmistakable. The new ‘Luna’, named after her dog, featuring tonal and colour-blocked layers promises to become a new favourite. Wandler also captured the bum-bag wave, with ‘Anna’.
Will it cost an arm and a leg?
Actually, not. Wandler happens to sit in the sweet spot between fast fashion and luxury labels, that of affordable luxury.
