‘It’ Bag or Not? That is the Question
This year, the new designer bags holding our attention aren’t the ones shouting the loudest. There are no garish logos or attention-seeking details, nor are they dripping in Instagram-catnip embellishment. In the age of thoughtful fashion purchases, sleek and season-transcending design reigns supreme – a factor that has set, not one but a couple of bags by your favourite brands as the next bag to know.
Alaïa’s Le Teckle
A slender, elongated sausage dog of a bag (yes, it is named after the dachshund in a nod to Azzedine Alaïa’s love for dogs) with long, curved straps and a two-way zip. Its popularity isn’t truly surprising – Le Teckle offers a surprisingly roomy interior alongside sculptural handles and an internal mirror – a detail we think all bags vying for ‘It’ status should include.
Loewe’s Flamenco Purse
Part of the Flamenco family of bags under the Loewe umbrella, the Flamenco Purse is a fresh take on the iconic clutch we’ve all come to love over the years. What’s the difference? The purse comes in a sensual new shape in buttery Nappa leather, a leather-woven donut chain detail along with coiled knots and a drawstring closure synonymous with the Flamenco line.

Victoria Beckham’s Chain Pouch
If it comes from the infamous ‘It’ girl herself, would it be an ‘It’ bag? While creating this pouch, designer muse turned designer, Victoria, felt the need to add something quite masculine to the bag. Not long ago, her husband gifted her a masculine watch which inspired her to add a watch chain detail to the pouch, combining both masculinity and her love for watches. The bag also comes with a detachable chain – giving it a dual purpose: a clutch (with the watch chain) and a shoulder bag.
Rabanne’s 1969 Pochette
“He’s not a couturier. He’s a metal worker” With these two sentences Coco Chanel had disbanded Paco Rabanne’s entire body of work. The architect-turned-fashion-designer laughed it off; and then, went on to create the “it” bag: et voilà, Le 1969 materialised. Le 1969 shoulder bag – an envelope-shaped bag was (and still is) made from coin-sized discs of metal fixed together with rings. The reaction was immediate: Brigitte Bardot and Françoise Hardy took them out on the town. Fifty years on, Le 1969 is back on the arms of fashion’s coolest women – like it was never gone.
Jacquemus’ Le Calino
In a world of archival revivals and classic shapes, Jacquemus is one of the rare brands whose offerings always feel fresh. We first saw Le Calino in Gigi Hadid’s hand as she opened the brand’s Spring 2024 show. Coming in a variety of colours and sizes, the bag is crafted with either Nappa leather or pony hair. Le Calino also features a rounded top handle (almost like a bangle) that opens from the side, perfect for all your essentials on an evening out.
Now you can get your very own Le Calino.
