Fascinated by abstract art, Veena Chandran, ceramic artist and founder of Veena pottery started her journey into the realm of expression with canvas and colour. Using mediums such as lithography and print, she created work that seemingly had unending possibilities. Eventually, Veena Chandran discovered clay, the medium that gave her the freedom she truly needed to express herself as well as played the part of an equal collaborator in the process. Working with clay in the field of pottery, she found the freedom and connection she had longed for.
Immersing herself in experimentation with different colours and patterns, she used her experience in lithography and print to create something new and exceptional. ‘Nerikomi, Neriyagi, and Agateware’, an established form of pottery, is something she came across while experimenting. Intrigued by porcelain, Veena shifted from stoneware to porcelain which is a more delicate yet strong, firm and translucent material with lesser constraints. She believes in creating products that are not just decorative, but their beauty and uniqueness should be felt when physically held.
