Lessons in Ladylike Dressing by Rasario
The trend is everywhere. All-encompassing ruffles, skirts that fit like gloves and soft-touch satin dresses that embody Audrey Hepburn’s iconic look in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. You know it’s a trend gaining ground when even French Vogue sets out to recreate a real-life Lady’s classic looks. In their August issue, Hailey Beiber gave Princess Diana’s timeless wardrobe a 2019 update. So, when Kourtney Kardashian turned up in a sunshine yellow silk dress by Russian label Rasario in Sardinia last month, followed close behind by Camila Cabello in a mini dress equal parts school-girl and sexy, it was clear that the ultra-feminine trend is staging its comeback.
Rasario, the label that everyone is talking about, was first seen on Sonam Kapoor Ahuja in March last year. Her choice: a Big Bird-inspired black ruffle jumpsuit. Creative director Rasida Lakobo behind the brand describes its aesthetic as “the luxury of simplicity for a simple occasion”. But beyond Kapoor Ahuja’s outing in the designer du jour’s midnight black number, Lakobo has another India connect. The Abkhazia-born, Moscow based designer found inspiration in the works of Indian artist, Amrita Sher-Gil. The result? A contrast of corsets and flowing drapes reminiscent of saris in intricate translucent fabrics – something that’s come to be known as the Rasario DNA.
With ‘90s nostalgia in the air and corsets, slip dresses, power-puff sleeves and cold-shoulders seeing the light of day again, we take a lesson in ladylike dressing from the celebs recently spotted in Rasario.
#1 Slay in a slip dress like Kourtney Kardashian
We saw it first on Kate Moss in the ‘90s. Some 24 years later, the once-simple-and-sensual lingerie basic is now a closest essential. Slinky and curve skimming, trust a Kardashian to make it a sultry summer staple.
#2 Hitched hemlines, but make them heritage, via Camila Cabello
Think of it as grown-up grunge. With checks back in focus, trust Rasario to transform them into the stuff of evening wear. The pattern no longer applies to business-as-usual pantsuits only.
#3 How to draw all eyes to the décolletage by Sistine Stallone
Puff sleeved cold shoulders is one way to get all eyes on the décolletage. This, and Rasario’s MVP hold-everything in bodice and you’re ready to channel summer.
#4 What would Red Riding Hood wear in 2019? Sydney Sweeney has the answer
In wine red, plush velvet and a sweetheart neckline, looking ladylike is a cinch!
#5 Princess-style poufy sleeves as seen on Brittany Snow
It could be the anticipation of the arrival of The Crown Season 3, but Victorian-style blouses and dresses are on our radar. Bring on the mutton sleeves!
#6 And finally, fashion meets femininity in Rasida Lakobo’s own wardrobe
Who better to teach us a lesson or two about flirty, girly dressing than the designer herself? From shapes that accentuate, to the right sprinkle of shine on an otherwise minimal blouse, without any doubt, Lakobo is her label’s own best fit model.
