Tress Destress With Hiral Bhatia
It’s time to let down those locks as we bid adieu to our pandemic-primitive selves. While we convinced ourselves the lazy top-knot was having a moment, it’s probably best we don’t take it to the streets. 2020 was a hefty investment for skin and hair in the guise of self-care, and now - it’s PAYDAY!
Hair artist to the stars (think B-town, think @bbhiral) and trailblazer, Hiral Bhatia tells all while on location in Scotland. She unveils some truths, puts out her forecast and gives us a mood board for days in the form of her archives. Be bold this new year!
Predictions for hair in 2021

Money piece will be big in 2021- a colour technique where lighter pieces are added to your front hairline. I’m wearing a subtle one myself at the moment.

Do what works best for you. Hair must be personal and an expression of your personality.
Hair myths to bust
Trimming hair makes it grow faster. Untrue.
If you pluck a grey, more pop up. Untrue.
Conditioner makes your hair fall. Untrue.
On the magic number of products to use
A good shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner goes for everyone. The rest is according to your hair and scalp type.
On product buildup
Always start will less, less is more. You can add but you can’t undo. Most sprays brush away- if you feel you’ve added too much, try brushing it out. For overdose of oil or cream-based products, use a dry shampoo.
Holy grail recommendations
Nashi and Kerestase hair masks
Moroccan oil
Nashi detangling spray
Kerastase fluidissime anti-frizz spray
pH Laboratories’ products
Kerastse nectar thermique leave-in conditioner
Worst hair trends of 2020
Nothing major that I can think of since most of 2020 was home-bound. People barely combed their hair!
Was definitely not a fashion choice
On memorable celebrity looks
Sonam Kapoor in soft floral braids
Kiara Advani in Kim Kardashian inspired waves
All looks I create, with different clients, are memorable. There’s equal amount of dedication, and effort going into them. Sonam’s soft floral braid with a red flowy dress is a favourite. Another is Kim Kardashian waves for Kiara Advani which she adorned with a beautiful gold dress.
