Wardrobe Hero: Balenciaga Hourglass
When you think of Cristobal Balenciaga’s legacy - the hourglass figure pioneered by the couturier almost instantly comes to mind. Exaggerated shoulders, nipped waist, and hips that inflate outwards - the trapezoid shape encapsulates the maison's history.
If there’s a bag that’s hot right now - it’s got to be Balenciaga’s new(ish) Hourglass bag. Launched in late 2019, the bag pays homage to the Spanish couturier by drawing from the founder’s structural tailoring codes. Artistic director Demna Gvasalia created the Hourglass bag to mirror the fashion house’s hero silhouette.
The bag has a unique curvilinear shape that is sure to turn heads. With a short top handle and a detachable shoulder strap, it packs enough personality as all of us. The rectangular body is sleek, with a flap that is monogrammed with the fashion house’s signature B hardware. Cleverly, the creative director has brought a strong look to the voluptuous shape. The accordian style compartment provides ample room, making up for any lost square inches in the bag’s curved shape.
